And the France global has revealed the problem is reoccurring and will need continuous treatment for the remainder of his career.
The 31-year-old has become the heart and soul of the North London side in recent years, with his exceptional reading of the game and tenacious aggression enabling Koscielny to become one of the Premier League’s standout defenders.
Heading into the final weekend of the season, they sit one point behind fourth-placed Liverpool and on the verge of missing out on the Champions League for the first time in almost two decades. Koscielny is no doubt the first defender on the team sheet when fully fit and he’s earned himself a high status at Arsenal.
“It will be life choices, outside of football, that decide what happens next in my career”, said Marseille coach Rudi Garcia.
The 31-year-old’s Achilles problems, left and right, were picked up when he was diagnosed with ‘chronic tendinitis’ while away on worldwide duty back in 2014. This was during an global break and he subsequently missed around two months due to the injury diagnosis.
His current achilles injury looks unlikely to ever heal as a result.
Arsenal defender Laurent Koscielny reveals that he needs daily treatment on his Achilles until the end of his career.
“I have some problems”, he said. Now it is better. I know it is a hard injury because you need to work every day on this. I know now I need to do this every day to be fit for my team.
“Now, every day I do this and it is okay but sometimes with all the games we play every three days, it is hard”.
With a very important final tough test in the league against Everton on the last day of the season, Koscielny will hope to be fit and ready to face the task of handling powerhouse striker Romelu Lukaku. The Gunners can not afford to drop any points in their final game and so our defence needs to be watertight. “They know for a long time so I think if we are qualified or not for the Champions League they have targets in their head and they will do everything to have the best players for us, a player who can help the team to be better and who can change the team to have some more positive results for this club”.
