Palestinians, Israel police clash at Jerusalem Old City gate

The likelihood of a revived peace process, let alone a successful one, is virtually nil.

Israeli forces moved in, and clashes ensued with the Palestinian protesters.

Trump became the first sitting president to visit the Western Wall, the last remnant of the biblical Temple and Judaism's holiest site.

Washington announced a $110-billion U.S. sale of ships, tanks and the latest anti-missile systems to Saudi Arabia on Saturday as Trump began a two-day visit to the Gulf state before travelling on to Israel. The goal of Trump's trip, the official said, was "to do a lot of listening, build very strong relationships with all the different people, not just the parties involved. and try to create a lot of momentum and optimism around the prospect for peace".

The provocative parade of tens of thousands of flag-waving fanatic Israelis in occupied East Jerusalem, particularly its Old City, marking 50 years for its occupation was highlighted on the front page of the Thursday issue of the three Palestinian Arabic dailies.

The Commerce secretary, who accompanied Trump to the oil-rich kingdom over the weekend, said he found it "fascinating" that he did not see "a single hint of a protester anywhere there during the whole time we were there".

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began the day's festivities at a special Knesset session, where he declared the Temple Mount and Western Wall will forever remain under Israeli sovereignty.

In the letter, the Christian leaders cited the Jerusalem Embassy Act, stating that "the time has come, at long last, to uphold American law by moving the US embassy to Israel's eternal indivisible capital city of Jerusalem". In a speech on Tuesday at the Israel Museum, Mr. Trump proclaimed that the "Palestinians are ready to reach for peace", adding that Mr. Netanyahu also "wants peace".

Responsible for accompanying first lady Melania Trump and the president's daughter, Ivanka, who is an orthodox Jew, to the women's section of the wall, Berkin told them "that as women you have power to pray and thank God for everything you have and ask him for what you want".

The Palestinian leadership has pledged to work with Trump, hoping his unorthodox approach can lead to progress previously lacking.

Here, a definition of duplicity may be helpful: "Deceitfulness in speech or conduct, as by speaking or acting in two different ways to different people concerning the same matter".

Noah Pollak, a pro-Israel foreign policy consultant, told Gray that "if Pence, Bannon, and Friedman were running Israel policy the embassy would already be in Jerusalem".

"It was a visit of intent, of his intent to reach out and help us reach a final agreement".

'"Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all you who love her, ' Happy Jerusalem Day".

"Trump sees himself brokering a grand bargain in the Mideast among Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Israel against Sunnite Islamist terror and Iranian-backed Shiite terror", Ohio Northern University Assistant Professor of History Robert Waters said.

Trump's decision to include a 36-hour visit to Israel as part of his first overseas trip is a clear demonstration that "the U.S. -Israel bond based on shared democratic values remains unshakable and is central to his world view", according to David Harris, the AJC's CEO.

Yet critics pointed out that while the symbolism of Trump's visit was significant, there were precious few details on his plan for kickstarting negotiations.

"President Trump risked stepping on his own narrative of strong support for Israel and restarting peace talks with his "I didn't say the word Israel" moment".

"The big question is not whether the visit was symbolic rather than substantial but whether it will have long term affects". The only credible ideas still require the creation of a sovereign Palestinian state alongside Israel.
