Trump on Sunday once again tweeted his displeasure with the ramped-up Russian Federation investigation, now led by Special Counsel Robert Mueller: “The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt“, the president tweeted. During a less-than-effective attempt to explain his legal theory for why Trump would have a right to be upset should the Department of Justice investigate him for following their advice to fire Comey, Sekulow seemed to admit that the president was, in fact, under investigation.
Donald Trump is not under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey, the president’s lawyer said, in seeming contradiction to a tweet the United States leader had sent out earlier complaining of a “witch hunt” against him.
Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he’s aware that Trump is anxious to be proclaimed innocent, but “the FBI’s going to do their job, Mueller’s going to do his job”, and the best outcome is “a full and thorough and credible investigation that reveals everything”.
A person familiar with the matter confirmed to USA TODAY that Trump is indeed under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller and his team. POTUS’s legal team made clear to news reporters that the president is not under investigation for obstruction of justice.
Earlier this month, Rosenstein told The Associated Press that “if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there’s a need from me to recuse, I will”. It was a tactic that earned him incredulous pushback from his interviewers, all of whom pointed to Trump’s own tweets.
Rubio says: “If it involved working with Americans, whether wittingly or unwittingly, that needs to be part of” the investigation.
Sekulow says “I don’t tell him what to write or not write”.
Trump returned to the White House on Sunday after spending Father s Day weekend at the Camp David presidential retreat.
President Donald Trump just expanded his legal team, but one of his lawyers appears to be out of touch with reality. Trump’s tweet could be targeting Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed former Federal Bureau of Investigation director Robert Mueller as special counsel to oversee the probe into Russia’s intervention into the last year’s presidential polls.
On Twitter again Sunday, Trump said, “The Make America Great Again agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the witch hunt”. But by the time he issued his final report in 1998, he had not only shifted his focus to whether Bill Clinton had perjured himself in testifying about hanky-panky with a White House intern, Monica Lewinsky, he had also investigated everything from Vince Foster’s suicide to the firing of White House travel office personnel, the improper handling of Federal Bureau of Investigation files, and a wide variety of the Clintons’ business activities before Bill became president.
Senate and House committees are also investigating Trump.
“I really – if I were the president, I would be welcoming this investigation“.
Both Coats and Rogers declined before the Senate intelligence committee earlier this month to answer questions about their conversations with Trump, but both said they had never felt urged by Trump to intervene in the Russian Federation probes.
Sekulow later appeared on Fox News Sunday and was challenged by host Chris Wallace over twice seeming to confirm the investigation he had previously denied.
