Bodies of Michigan man, adult son found in van

State police in Lakeview are investigating the deaths of a high school principal and his adult son, found together in a van at the end of a two-track in Montcalm County Monday night. While details remain unclear, we were notified by local law enforcement that newly appointed superintendent and current elementary principal George Heckman has passed away.

The search started with a missing person report in Clinton County, MSP said.

The Pewamo-Westphalia Community Schools district says the search for George Heckman intensified after he didn’t show up to a Monday school board meeting.

It was not clear to Cooper why the two men were in Carson City; both lived in Westphalia, Cooper told Mlive. Cooper calls Heckman, “a champion for under dog students”. Autopsies have been scheduled for Tuesday morning at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

George Heckman was supposed to take over as superintendent of Pewamo-Westphalia schools in 10 days, Cooper told 24 Hour News 8.

One of several closure signs posted on Pewamo-Westphalia school doors on June 20, 2017.

According to Facebook posts, a crisis team will be available to the community at the high school auditorium beginning at 9 a.m. Its driver’s education, basketball camp, cheer practice and volleyball practice are all canceled.
