Perez says he hasn’t spoken to Ronaldo about rumors of exit

Florentino Perez will stay on as Real Madrid president until 2021 after no other candidates presented a bid to rival the incumbent before Sunday’s deadline, the European champions announced in a statement on Monday.

The Chinese Super League could be another option, but Ronaldo would be well aware that a move there at this stage would prevent him from competing for top honours and hinder his chances of winning individual awards such as the Ballon d’Or. He won three Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy and one FA Cup in those six seasons.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was re-elected on Monday but didn’t make any comment about Ronaldo in his news conference. “All this is very unusual”, Perez told the Spanish radio station Onda Cero, as quoted by Sky Sports.

Irked by the tax evasion case, Ronaldo reportedly feels that the Real Madrid club doesn’t protect him the way it should.

In quotes published on Marca’s website, Perez said: “We have built a legendary team with the best players from Spain and the world, but also with many players from our youth academy”.

“The only thing I know is that Cristiano is very angry with the treatment he has received in the press”. This is very unusual and in the next few days I’ll talk to him.

“I have not spoken with him since [the Champions League final in] Cardiff”. Our obligation is to comply with tax duties.

“I have not talked with Cristiano…. but they tell me has been treated badly in this country”.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are the two clubs most keenly pursuing the 31-year-old forward’s signature, but Perez skipped over talk of a sale by pricing Ronaldo out of the market.

It will be the third term for the 70-year-old construction magnate who has spent 15 years at the helm of Europe’s most successful club from 2000-2006 and since 2009.

There is scepticism at Old Trafford about whether the 32-year-old would seriously contemplate a return to Manchester, or whether this is just the latest power struggle that ends with…

Perez assured fans that the forward would be honouring his contract with Real Madrid, but revealed that he would not discuss the former Manchester United player’s future until after Portugal had finished their Confederations Cup campaign.
