Special prosecutor ‘investigating business dealings of Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner’

Mueller has assembled a high-powered team of top investigators and leading experts, including seasoned attorneys who’ve represented major American companies in court and who have worked on cases ranging from Watergate to the Enron fraud scandal. He’s also hired Andrew Weissmann, who led the Enron investigation.

Vice President Mike Pence on Thursday hired his own lawyer to represent him in the special counsel’s Russian Federation investigation. The political leanings of those three have come under fire, as they have been noted donors to Democrats. The unnamed sources claim that Kushner discussed setting up a confidential line of communication between Trump and Russian officials during the Kislyak meeting. The Post said the finances of other Trump associates are also being looked into, including former National Security Adviser Mike Flynn, former campaign chairman Paul Manafort and former foreign policy adviser Carter Page.

Trump spoke to Coats and Rogers about the Russian Federation investigation, according to officials.

The new development Thursday appears to be that the inquiry has shifted to Mueller.

Before he met with the president, Comey gathered his leadership team at the Federal Bureau of Investigation to discuss with them whether he should be prepared to assure then-President-elect Trump that the Federal Bureau of Investigation was not investigating him personally.

US officials familiar with the investigation told The Washington Post about its financial focus Thursday.

“They made up a phony collusion with the Russians story, found zero proof, so now they go for obstruction of justice on the phony story”, he wrote on Twitter. “Nice”, the president tweeted just before 4 a.m.

President Trump’s son-in-law and key aide Jared Kushner is the subject of an investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller. He declined to comment on the disclosure.

“The FBI leak of information regarding the President is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal”, Mark Corallo, the spokesman for Trump’s legal team, said in an email.

Despite suggestions by a Trump friend in a television interview that the president was weighing dismissing Mueller as special counsel, the White House declared late Tuesday that there was no such plan.

This has always seemed very plausible to me, that Kushner was trying to use his position of influence with Trump to make a quid pro quo – I’ll help get the sanctions lifted if you agree to finance our troubled real estate holdings.
