Congressman Steve Scalise has undergone another surgery as he recovered from Wednesday’s shooting in Alexandria, Virginia. “The Scalise family greatly appreciates the outpouring of thoughts and prayers”.
The House of Representatives majority whip underwent another operation on Saturday, and the hospital said he was more responsive and speaking with his family.
The hospital upgraded the third-ranking Republican leader from critical condition.
In family photos accompanying Sunday’s Twitter post, Scalise is seen smiling as he enjoys everyday moments with his wife, son and daughter.
Mr Scalise’s trauma surgeon said on Friday he could hope to make an “excellent recovery”, even he arrived at the hospital at imminent risk of death.
As Americans recognize the incredible role fathers play in our lives this Father’s Day, the holiday is said to have taken on a “special meaning” for the family of Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.).
The gunman, 66-year-old James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois, was shot and killed by responding officers.
Scalise “sustained a single rifle wound that entered in the area of the left hip”, Sava said, adding that the round fragmented and did “substantial damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels”. He has required surgery several times since the shooting.
“While we know there will be hard and challenging days ahead for Matt and our family, the phsycians and specialists at Matt’s side expect a full recovery”, the statement said. They also said “we continue to be grateful beyond words for the heroic actions of the U.S. Capitol Police this week”. Hodgkinson had lashed out against President Donald Trump and Republicans over social media. Two police officers were injured.
