Team India leaves for West Indies, Kumble stays back for ICC meet

Team India is supposed to leave for the Caribbean straight after the Champions Trophy in England, and by the time that series concludes, BCCI is expecting to have complete clarity on Kumble’s future.

The official further added that the CAC comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have given a green light to Dravid’s contract extension.

Amid reports of relationship between Virat Kohli and head coach Anil Kumble reaching “beyond the fix stage”, the latter did not join the Indian Team on the flight to West Indies. Whereas in (Anil) Kumble’s contract there is no clause of extension. “That is why process (to call me applicants) was followed in Kumble’s case”. However, with the contract allowing an extension, the CAC made a decision to extend Dravid’s contract without calling for new applicants.

Dravid had been embroiled in a conflict of interest controversy after former Committee of Administrators (CoA) member Ramchandra Guha’s lengthy letter to the CoA chief Vinod Rai.

“Kumble’s track record as head coach is nearly without a blemish”.

The only issue now would be the remuneration that the Indian cricket board is willing to offer Dravid, who earned a little more than Rs 4 crores from his previous contract, the duration of which was 10 months. Reports suggest that CAC played a role in Dravid’s extension as well. Extension of both Kumble and Dravid’s contracts seems likely now.

The two teams will play the first of the five ODIs in Port of Spain on June 23.

“The CAC has approved the two-year extension and now everything depends on money to be paid to Dravid”.

Dravid’s extension as the head coach certainly is a good news for Indian cricket.

He has had a successful run with the youth teams so far and you would hope that he this longer stint with the players will help him help them even further.
