Hummus sold at major retailers recalled for listeria

Three different brands of hummus are being recalled by House of Thaller, a Knoxville, Tennessee company.

The brands in question – Fresh Foods Market, Lantana and Marketside – are sold across the United States at major retailers such as Target and Walmart, among other stores.

Pregnant women, the elderly, young children and people with weakened immune systems are at a much higher risk of problems from listeriosis.

These products were distributed nationwide through various USA grocery retailers from April 18, 2017 to June 13, 2017, and in Canada on April 20, 2017.

The full list of products, including photos of the affected products and expiration dates and lot codes for each, are at the FDA website. The lot code includes a “use by” date, followed by a “W” and seven digits. According to the FDA, the products are distributed in a 10 ounce, clear, and round plastic cup with a clear or colored plastic lid. For a refund, you are asked to contact the House of Thaller Customer Service Center at 855-215-5142. Foodborne illnesses reportedly increase in summer because bacteria thrive in warm weather, so you can expect more recalls as we get deeper into summer.
