At least 8 killed in blast at mosque in northeastern Nigeria

Last month, month, the Army successfully repelled an attack by Boko Haram insurgents in Maiduguri.

Mr. Danbatta added two other female suicide bombers were gunned down at Mamanti street of Maiduguri at about the same time the mosque was attacked.

A source at the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), who confirmed the incident, said only the two boys were affected in the blast.

The attack occurred at about 5:00 AM, a witness, Malam Muhammad Grema told the News Agency of Nigeria.

This was followed by another attack which claimed at least two lives in Molai town, located on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the capital of the northeastern state of Borno.

Soldiers guarding the trenches shot the women as a result of which the explosives strapped to their bodies detonated, blowing them to pieces, the rescue coordinator added.

The police Public Relations Officer, ASP Victor Isuzu, did not respond to phone calls and text messages. One of them died and the other sustained injuries.

“Another antic is by abducting children who are on errands, strapping them with suicide vests and sending them back home, where the suicide bomb detonates to kill members of the household”.

This is the fifth attack by suicide bombers in less than a week in the same city.

A security guard at the University was also killed from the explosions the bombers planted.
