Liverpool’s interest in him is nothing new, although given that they were forced to publicly apologise to Southampton after their approach for the Dutch global previously which resulted in the Saints lodging a formal complaint against them with the Premier League, it looked as though the pursuit was over.
New Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino has already said that he wants to Van Dijk to stay as he looks to build the team around the towering stopper, who joined the club from Celtic for £13million in summer 2015.
Van Dijk impressed during the 2016-17 season, making 21 appearances in the Premier League before being ruled out for the end of the campaign thanks to a damaged ligament in his foot picked up in the 3-0 win over Leicester in January.
Liverpool had a decent attack last season and so far they have managed to further improve the offense by signing Solanke and Salah.
There are likely to be a number of outgoings from Liverpool in the coming days.
