Barcelona chief Josep Vives: We’re not thinking of Neymar sale

Paris Saint-Germain is ready and willing to pay Barcelona star Neymar’s €222 million ($255 million) transfer release clause, Spanish newspaper AS reports. We are relaxed about that and we only hope next season is better than the last one.

Neymar’s father will travel to Paris this week to meet Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, the President of PSG, to discuss a transfer for the Brazilian winger.

The Mirror claim that Jose Mourinho held talks with Neymar at the end of last season about a potential move to United and have tipped the Manchester giants to step-up their interest in wake of these latest reports. His release clause this summer stands at €200m, while it will steadily increase over the next three years eventually up to €250m.

The Parisians have been utterly adamant that their Italian midfield maestro – new Barca boss Ernesto Valverde’s No.1 target – will not be allowed to leave the club, but that stance might change if Neymar moves in the opposite direction.

‘I don’t think that’s going to happen, ‘ he told a press conference.

Reports say PSG are circling around Neymar, but Barcelona remain sure the Brazilian will ignore the chance to leave. While these numbers aren’t as good as those of Lionel Messi or Luis Suarez, being the main man elsewhere would surely see them rise to world class standards.

Neymar had signed a contract extension at Barcelona only past year, which included a release clause of €200m but increased to €222m in the current transfer window.

“Even if you might argue we need back up in certain areas”, he said, adding Barcelona had no offers on the table for any of their players either.

Neymar has developed in to one of the best players in the world since joining Barca from Santos in 2013 having scored more than 100 goals and setting up a further 77 to help win a whole host of honours including 2 La Liga titles and the Champions League.
