Kremlin-backed Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov has faced wide global criticism since a Russian newspaper reported this spring that his security forces had detained, tortured and sometimes killed gay men.
Kadyrov was interviewed by the United States cable TV network HBO; fragments of the interview were posted on YouTube on Friday and were immediately picked up by the worldwide media.
“We want worldwide footballers to be positive role models for young people, be they gay, straight, bisexual of whatever”, Mr Lord added. “And if we consider them in the context, there was nothing extraordinary in them”, Peskov said. Praise be to god. “To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them“, he says. To purify our blood, if there are any here, take them, ‘ he said.
Last march, the Russian newspaper of the opposition “Novaya Gazeta” claimed that a hundred people would have been put to stops by the chechen authorities, some undergoing torture in “secret prisons” and of others being possibly murdered. “What’s the point of these questions?”
“As for Kadyrov’s interview, frankly speaking, very often his words are taken out of context”, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov (photo) said, according to Russian state news agency TASS. The consequences of his beliefs may be deadly but that blend of bigotry is nothing new for those of us in the U.S. We’re used to seeing politicians motivated by their Christian faith to make the lives of LGBTQ people miserable. “They are for sale”. For months he has denied that any anti-gay crackdown is taking place and that gay men even exist in Chechnya.
His comments are believed to be his first to Western media since the April report in Novaya Gazeta.
America is conducting an anti-Russian policy against the country’s leadership.
The Chechen strongman has regularly been accused of human rights violations.
In an interview with HBO, the Head of Chechnya also says that the USA policy is directed against Russian Federation.
“America is conducting a policy against Russian Federation, against the country’s leadership”, Kadyrov said. “Even if our government was completely destroyed, our nuclear missiles would be automatically deployed”.
