Hue Jackson not rushing to name DeShone Kizer starting QB

“I think it’s still too soon for me to make a decision about the quarterback rotation”, Jackson said.

The Cleveland Browns want to take their time developing DeShone Kizer.

“It’s the making of a quarterback”, Jackson said. “I think we all know that”. “I think there are some things we have to get cleaned up with him really quickly”. You just don’t make decisions to make them.

Check out the poll below and let us know what you think.

“If a guy is good enough and deserving of an opportunity, trust me, we are not in a position to where we wouldn’t give the best player an opportunity”. “We’ll continue to work through this, and when we think the time is right, whenever that is, then we’ll make that decision”.

That means if the Browns don’t start Kizer next Monday night against the Giants, their only other option for doing so this preseason would be on a five-day turnaround against either the Buccaneers or Bears. He could name Kizer the starter moving forward. I think that takes time.

“Nothing’s off the table”, Jackson said. I don’t think you do things out of a knee-jerk reaction. Talking to local media following Thursday’s opener against the Saints, Jackson indicated the reps order will remain Brock Osweiler, Cody Kessler, DeShone Kizer and Kevin Hogan for now.

Without a clear-cut better choice, Jackson was asked his concerns about going to Kizer right now. “But I think right now I’m not in a position to say where I am”. “I don’t feel very comfortable”. “That’s why I haven’t made that decision”. You want to do what’s best for your team and for your players, not just because people see a bomb that’s thrown down the field for 45 yards.

The Browns haven’t had a winning record since 2007 and haven’t reached the playoffs since 2002 with poor quarterback play being one of the main culprits.

Kizer was fairly accurate in completing 11 of his 18 pass attempts, and he came up big with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter by hitting Jordan Payton for a 45-yard touchdown on a 4th-and-2. “Stood in there and made some plays with his arm”.

“There was calling the plays in the huddle”.

“I’m going to think through all these scenarios, I really am”, Jackson said.

But he’ll be the first to tell you there’s so many things he’s got to grow from“.

A couple overthrows on balls down the field to Ricardo Louis and tight end Seth DeValve were hard to miss but Jackson felt there was plenty of blame to go around for the lackluster performance from Osweiler. At the least, they should be able to help the Browns buy time before throwing Kizer in.
