Sanchez, 28, picked up an abdominal injury in training ahead of last Sunday’s FA Community Shield victory against Chelsea at Wembley and the Chilean forward will now miss Friday’s PL opener against Leicester City (Watch live, 2:45 p.m. ET on NBCSN and online via NBCSports.com) and is unlikely to make their trip to Stoke in Week 2 too.
“He’s an Arsenal player in the short term”.
The Independent recently reported that the big-spending Ligue 1 giants were prepared to offer £80m ($103.8m) to beat City to that particular signing, although Wenger believes the cash-rich Ligue 1 side are instead looking to raid domestic rivals AS Monaco and sign the widely-coveted teenage striker Kylian Mbappe.
“If he went to City there would be uproar from the Arsenal fans”.
“It doesn’t look like he’s going to sign”, said Wright, speaking on The Debate – the new nightly show on Sky Sports Premier League.
“If he goes to PSG he’s out of sight, out of mind”.
Wenger believes it shows women will eventually move into the men’s game in other leagues, while he also thinks the role of the manager will change completely in coming years.
Sanchez returned late to pre-season training with the Gunners due to his commitments at the Confederations Cup with Chile and will now have his start to the new Premier League campaign delayed.
“They are not anxious about the money because they aren’t the ones getting it”.
“We didn’t manage to do that last season so I’m not super optimistic in that regard, but we have the firm intention of not selling him“.
“The problem if he does stay is that he’s only staying for six months really”.
Quizzed as to whether Arsenal had fielded any offers at all for Sanchez, the manager replied: “I can’t tell you that at the moment”. I don’t know [how long he will be out] – two weeks, one more week. Personally I think he is a hugely talented player, he’s on the way up and he will continue to move up because the potential is there.
Add to that the suspension of Laurent Koscielny and Wenger’s resources are already set to be tested with the season yet to get under way. “That’s not Sanchez though, he’s world class”.
