Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., said President Donald Trump had elevated North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un as a “world stage player” in his statements over their nuclear weapons program, The Hill reported Saturday.
“We consider the U.S.no more than a lump which we can beat to a jelly any time”, the Korean Central News Agency said, quoting Institute of International Studies researcher Kang Kum Chol.
During his speech, Ellison denounced the use of heated political rhetoric and said diplomacy should be used to ease the increasing tensions between the US and North Korea. “Kim Jong Un – the world always thought he was not a responsible leader”. Tomas Ojea Quintana, UN special rapporteur for human rights in North Korea, also said that military threats being exchanged by Washington and Pyongyang were diverting attention from the needs of ordinary North Koreans. “So if you don’t want to get caught, deer-in-the-headlights, start calling for diplomacy in North Korea immediately”.
“It’s tailor-made for somebody to misuse”, Ellison said. “I’d say, he’s being incredibly irresponsible, and he’s putting us in a situation where you could have an accidental launch”, he added.
Ellison warned Trump’s rhetoric could spur Kim to take action first and called for someone to bring “calm to the situation, not spiking it”. “So between that and Trump’s promise to unleash fire and fury at North Korea, you could be forgiven for your confusion about whether you’re listening to the fictional Daenerys Targaryen on “Game of Thrones” or the very real President of the United States”.
“With radical beliefs like these, Democrats need to decide whether Keith Ellison deserves to speak for their party going forward”, Ahrens said.
