Senior JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav, at odds with party president Nitish Kumar since the latter jettisoned the 20 month old grand alliance to form a new government with the BJP, late last month, hit back at Kumar, on Saturday.
He said the decision has been communicated to Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.
After joining the NDA, JD (U) will be offered two berths in central council of ministers – one of cabinet rank and the other of minister of state.
Bihar JD (U) president Vashishtha Narayan has said that the move was necessary due to Yadav’s recent actions.
The development comes a day after the Bihar Chief Minister had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah in the national capital on Friday.
“There is no question of leaving the party (JD-U)”. If he continues what he is doing, he could face suspension from the party…
Hitting out at Kumar, Anwar said that people who brought the party to its glory were being “removed” from party posts.
“The decision to join hands with the BJP and form a government in Bihar was against the mandate given in the 2015 assembly polls”.
Mr Yadav claimed that the real JD (U) was with him and the one with Mr. Kumar was “sarkari” JD (U). He said Yadav’s removal was an “injustice”.
JD (U) state spokesman Neeraj Kumar took a jibe at Yadav saying he had become the “political uncle” of Lalu’s sons Tejaswi and Tej Pratap Yadav, who were facing graft charges. We are ready to make any sacrifice… “We will fight till the end and go to the masses”, said Ansari. He also added that he is still with the grand alliance. People are with us. “Now, he is not in the government, the party has become a sarkari party?”
The JD (U) has 12 members in Parliament, two in the Lok Sabha and 10 in the Rajya Sabha.
“Yesterday (Friday) they suspended me from the parliamentary party”. Even Ali Anwar got elected to Rajya Sabha twice with the BJP’s help.
At the Patna meeting, the JD (U) will formalise a decision to join the NDA.
