Pochettino forgives Rose for Spurs ‘Google’ jibe

Tottenham have been slow to make summer signings because their “circumstances are different to other clubs”, says manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Rose, wanted by Manchester United and Chelsea, called for Spurs to make signings he “didn’t have to Google” in order to build on the promise of last season.

Rose attacked Tottenham’s lack of success in the transfer market – they have yet to sign a single player since the end of last season – by suggesting anyone they have bought previously was so unproven “you had to Google them”. I don’t understand why it’s a big issue now.

But Pochettino told BBC Radio 5 live: “It’s not easy to find the right profile but I’m sure we’ll add some players in the next few weeks”. With the players we have we can compete. “We have plenty of the same type of player”.

The England global subsequently issued an apology for his “ill-judged” comments but, according to The Sun, he has now been docked two weeks’ wages for the outburst.

Pochettino said: ‘He apologised to the club, to the chairman, to me and to the fans, which is so important.

Rose apologised for his comments in a statement released shortly before Spurs’ press conference to preview Sunday’s Premier League match against Newcastle.

“Since January he’s been working hard to fix his problem and our medical staff are working hard with him”.

‘We are helping him to provide the tools to be ready again and see after if he can help the team to achieve our targets next season.

‘It’s like that for the player.

The Sun report Mourinho would be open to letting Shaw join Tottenham if it meant he could sign Rose. We are here because we want to be here. I am more than happy to be here’.

The club, which came in second in the Premier League last season, ensuring a Champions League spot for the days to come, are the only team from the Premier League to have not signed a player in the summer window so far.

“I don’t understand why it is now an issue”. It’s good for him to say that.

The north London club are now preparing to take on the newly promoted Magpies at St. James’ Park with both sides looking to start the new campaign with a victory. We are so calm. We needed to bring some players in some positions to have competition. “We need them to challenge for all the things”.

‘When you see our philosophy and the way we work it’s so exciting. When I play with my son or my wife, I try to win.

‘We are calm and relaxed.
