Tony Pulis hopes he can take West Brom to the next level after signing a contract to remain as head coach until 2019.
But Pulis remains far from satisfied with his squad depth, as he expressed his desperate need to secure further reinforcements before the transfer window shuts on August 31. “I think the supporters and everybody around the football club wants to see that”, he said, in quotes reported by BBC Sport.
“I believe that there’s a tremendous talent pool in there and if that talent can not be realised immediately within our own ranks it is vital we get them out into league football to continue their development and education”.
“Sometimes it doesn’t work to plan, but this summer we have been fortunate to get the guys in early and work with them from the start of pre-season”, said Howe. The next few weeks are really vital.
Jay Rodriguez, another off-season arrival for the Baggies, had gone close on a couple of occasions prior to Hegazi’s header, while Bournemouth looked uncharacteristically bereft of attacking verve in their quest for an equaliser.
As well as bringing in the veteran England frontman Jermain Defoe, Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has also been able to acquire the services of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic and defender Nathan Ake, in a £20million deal, from Chelsea as the south-coast club step up their ambitions to become established among the Premier League elite. “And you have got to give credit to Matt Phillips and Chris Brunt; the quality coming into the box was fantastic”.
Hegazi posed further problems from another set-piece five minutes before the break as his flick-on found Claudio Yacob, who could only steer a sharp chance across the face of goal. We gave away a needless free-kick, and against West Brom that is a unsafe thing. I thought we were ready. We had the most shots on goal and the most corners.
