Woman killed in ceasefire violation by Pak army in Poonch

Soldiers from the Pakistani army targeted Indian positions and villages in the Mendhar sector along the Line of Control (LoC) using automatic weapons and mortars, state-run broadcaster All India Radio said.

Prior on Friday, Pakistan had abused truce at 6.25 pm at Kamalkote in Uri distirict of Jammu and Kashmir. No report of casualty was reported in the incident whereas, on Monday, Pakistani soldiers fired along the LoC at Indian posts in Baramullah’s Silikoot area in which a jawan was injured. On July 23, Pakistan abused truce in Baramulla region of J&K, yet no death toll was accounted for.

India and Pakistan routinely accuse each other’s forces of violating a 2003 ceasefire accord.

On August 8, the Pakistani troops resorted to firing and shelling in the Krishnagati sector of Poonch district, killing Sepoy Pawan Singh Sugra (21). After militants opened fire on an Army building late Friday night in Kalaroos in frontier district of Kupwara, Sunil Randhawa of the 17 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) sustained injuries, defence ministry spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia told UNI. Meanwhile, the search operation is still on.
