Barcelona spend first €40m of Neymar money on former Tottenham midfielder Paulinho

Their initial attempts to land the former Tottenham player were not successful, but things are about to change in the coming hours.

Now the Brazilian has completed his move to the Nou Camp, as the side look to bolster their squad, following the world record-breaking departure of global star Neymar to Paris Saint Germain for £200m.

To be fair, Paulinho has been an integral part of Brazil’s side since Tite took over as national team manager in June past year after the team had a miserable time in the Copa América Centenario.

It marks a return to European football for a player who spent two seasons at White Hart Lane, without hitting the heights expected of him following a £17 million switch from Corinthians.

Guangzhou now lead the Chinese Super League standings and are in the quarterfinals of the Asian Champions League.Paulinho also shone at the worldwide level in the past year, and scored a hat-trick in Brazil’s 4-1 victory over Uruguay in a World Cup qualifier in March.

It added that Guangzhou Evergrande’s Brazilian coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, confirmed the transfer.

According to The Daily Mail, the deal is now complete.

New manager Ernesto Valverde made it particularly clear that he wanted to sign a new central-midfielder, with the likes of Marco Verratti, Philippe Coutinho and Dele Alli being linked, however, it appears as though Paulinho is the midfielder Valverde has opted for.
