Trailing 2-3, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger substituted Giroud and Aaron Ramsey for Elneny and Rob Holding, respectively, while Leicester City’s Craig Shakespeare pulled Okazaki in favour of defensive midfielder Daniel Amartey.
Arsenal struck on 83 minutes through Ramsey to level things up before super-sub Olivier Giroud headed home a victor from a corner two minutes later.
Two minutes later, the comeback was complete, with super-sub Giroud sending the home fans wild via magnificent header from a Xhaka corner, despite being held by Wes Morgan.
“I’m happy we handled it well in the end”, said Cech, who joined the Gunners from Chelsea in 2015. “We have many games and hopefully, I can give them games”, Wenger said during his post match conference.
“Not only as a player, he is a fantastic player, b ut as well in the group – he has a big weight in the squad and it was a relief for me that he made a decision to stay”.
“Obviously I knew that I was going to have a chance so we tried to push”, Giroud said.
However, it was a very mixed bag in terms of their players’ performances.
“I feel as well that the goals we conceded, we can work together to get rid of that because one was a ball we lost in the build-up and we conceded two goals on corners. We were quite good previous year on corners and overall I believe that with a bit of work we can get that out of the system”.
“Previously in the Premier League we’ve not got off to the best of starts, so it meant a lot for us to get a good start and get three points today”.
Craig Shakespeare’s side boasted numerous players, and characteristics, that saw them shock the world to win the title in 2015/16.
“The first goal was from a short corner and we were not focused enough”.
Lacazette is the seventh Arsenal player to score on his first Premier League appearance. “We have top quality”.
