Battered Browns Team Searching For First Win Against Luckless Colts

With the possibility of sinking to their lowest point since their terrible 2-14 season in 2011, the Colts backed Hilton up by jumping out to a 21-point lead before holding on for a 31-28 victory over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

The rookie quarterback hasn't even been around for most of it.

But this loss belongs mostly to the Gregg Williams defense.

Against Baltimore, the Browns managed only 93 rushing yards as a team and 26 of those came from Kizer scrambles, and if you really want to get specific, 13 of them came on a single scramble.

Kizer's 11-yard touchdown pass to Britt cut the deficit to 10 points with 6:56 remaining, and his 1-yard dive made it a three-point game with 2:04 to play. His average TD catch: 34 yards. Two of his punts were downed inside the Cleveland 20-yard line.

He drew a pass interfence flag on Peppers for another 31 yards. It represented the third-highest first-half yardage total in team history.

Brissett's poor play thus far has made offense a lot harder to execute for the Colts, primarily in the passing game. This was only his third National Football League start. Neither team has found much success early this season due to their inability to reach the endzone.

"As long as he gets opportunities, T.Y.'s going to make plays, " running back Frank Gore said. Yet, the Browns seemed confused by that, or at least not able to cope with it. Jacoby Brissett, with another week in the Indianapolis Colts offense could also have a good game.

Chuck Pagano and his team have been in this position for--facing an 0-3 start to the season.

Colts owner Jim Irsay said he is troubled by Pres. Donald Trump's statements and Tweets suggesting fans stay away from NFL games where players take a knee during the national anthem and that players should be fired for doing so.

Brissett is only in his second pro season. These are Andrew Luck (QB), Marlon Mack (RB), Chester Rogers (WR), Ryan Kelly (C), Anthony Walker (ILB), and Quincy Wilson (CB). Brissett is an intriguing quarterback prospect. "Any time you can put 28 points on the board in the first half and get a bunch of three-and-outs on defense and get three takeaways and you can close it out, we need to do a better job of that".

Quarterback DeShone Kizer thinks it's time for a change-up, too.

With the win, Indy (1-2) avoids its first 0-3 start since 2011.

The comeback actually began just before the end of the first half when Kizer found rookie tight end David Njoku for a 1-yard touchdown to cap a 10-play, 75-yard drive. He also had five rushes for 14 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Kizer was 22 of 47 with 242 yards and two touchdowns.

Duke Johnson was outstanding. He scored on a 5-yard designed run. He missed two games during his junior season at Texas A&M, pushed himself to return and then didn't play up to his standards. That decision forced the Browns to try onside kicks after both scores, and the Colts recovered both.

The defensive collapse in the first half wiped out whatever hopes the Browns had of a victory.
